Joy Is Our Birthright

Prayer is comprised of a right understanding that the fullness of joy is our birthright, along with intense yearning and unshakable trust. When we engage in prayer, the lack of the bliss we were born to experience fills our souls with longing. True understanding and love, driven by sweet recollection of our Savior, give us the grace to trust in God. And so it is according to our nature that we yearn and by his grace that we trust. God is constantly watching for these two functions in us. It is our duty to both yearn and surrender. God expects nothing less of us.

When we rise to this task of prayer through our very best efforts, we are likely to think that our labor is nothing. And we would be right. Still, let us do what we can. All we need is to humbly ask for his mercy and grace. We shall find in him all that we lack in ourselves. This is what he means when he says, “I am the ground of all your praying.” In these blessed words, along with the full showing, I perceived that we shall be fully victorious over all our weaknesses and doubting fears.
