Once again the word ‘follow’ appears with the notion of sharia; here, in the form shir‘atan, the word can mean the Way, but could also refer to a theoretical frame of reference, as distinct from the method and the practice of ritual and good conduct. The third and final occurrence gives the root of the verb form:

In matters of faith he has ordained (shara‘a) for you that which he enjoined upon Noah and into which We gave you insight through Revelation – as well as that which we had enjoined upon Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus: Steadfastly uphold the [true] faith and do not break up your unity therein. (42:13)
