With this twofold description of the Law, combined with the other hints in the conception of the Law as applied within Die Elektrischen Vorspiele, we can create a more accurate picture of the properties and uses of the “Greater” and “Lesser” Law.

The Greater Law “brings the balance and doth persist without mercy.”19 The effect of the Law of the Trapezoid on those unaware and unprepared is to evoke a subtle form of the fight-or-flight instinct. The various symbols that imply danger in Mortensen’s Command to Look formula operate on this same principle, and of course Mortensen’s work was a vital source for LaVey’s own conception of the Law of the Trapezoid.

The Lesser Law “abideth as the key, and the shining Trapezoid is the door.”20 The effect of the Law of the Trapezoid on those aware of and consciously using its principles is beneficial, stimulating, and energizing. The “key” is this awareness and knowing the roots of the Law such that they enhance its action. Whereas the noninitiate instinctively wishes to flee at the sight of these angular environments and symbols, these same environments and symbols act as potent attractors and become tools for effecting change within the angular magician. This Lesser Law is a powerful tool for leaving “seeds” of the inspirations that led the magician to himself, so that others with similar background and interests could then be attracted by the mysteries they hold.
