“Still no chicks, huh?” whispered the mama pig as she peeked her head up from a stack of hay. “Not yet,” one of the chickens said softly.

“They’ll be here in due time,” said Mr. Rooster quietly, so he wouldn’t wake the sleeping animals. The chickens nodded, then closed their eyes, too.

Finally, there was not a sound in the barn, and all the animals were fast

asleep, even Mr. Rooster.

The next morning came.

“COCKA DOODLE DO!” the animals heard as they all began waking up from a long night’s rest. Stretching and yawning, they got up one by one from the hay stacks, but the chickens still sat patiently on their eggs, wondering when they would hatch.
