However, many young people go home and communicate in a variety of ways, "Where have you been for the first years of my life? I now know what it's all about, and you'd better get with it too." Again, these people sincerely want to express what has happened to them, but the hurt that is caused is incalculable. The same care and thoughtfulness should temper people's approach to non-Christian friends.

6. Help them find fellowship.

Finally, it is absolutely crucial that we introduce new Christians to other Christians and to a local church fellowship. The Lord Jesus knew we would need the warmth and support of the family of God. In fact, that's one reason he established the church. Tell new believers that the church is a place of growth in the knowledge of the Lord and in Christian service. These two factors should be their litmus test for choosing a church. If they find they're not growing spiritually and in a knowledge of the Scriptures, they need to pray for guidance about their future relationship with a particular church. Assure them that God will lead them.
