This is how you do it:
Buy a wall calendar.
Put it on the wall in a conspicuous spot.
On the days in which you successfully complete your practice session, mark the calendar with a green checkmark, and those days that you do not practice mark with a red X.
Enjoy watching those green checkmarks pile up!

Step 6 – Inspiration
The 6th step should be implemented only after you have been working with the first five techniques for two full weeks. This step is meant to pique your interest and challenge yourself in an enjoyable way. I find that without changing or adding something new to my practice repertoire, I become bored and my playing feels stagnated. This step involves purchasing an instructional guitar book that aligns with your musical preferences. Introducing a new guitar songbook or instructional book is a great way to keep things fresh. You have now been playing consistently for two weeks, so your fingers should be in decent shape to stretch yourself a bit by exploring something new.
I went to a used bookstore near my house with the sole purpose of finding a guitar book of some kind, and I got lucky. That day I found two songbooks - one by Eric Clapton and another by George Harrison, both in perfect condition. These books were perfect for me since they are well aligned with my musical taste, and I had the ability to follow enough of the material to at least get started. Some poor, frustrated person probably sold them after a failed attempt at creating his own guitar playing habit. Lucky for you, if you are reading this guide and implementing these steps, you will not have this problem.
The point of this step is to find something that gets you excited to play. It can be a songbook or an instructional book, and of course it does not have to come from a used bookstore. There are also many online opportunities to score an endless variety of guitar playing books. Try to find something that aligns with your musical taste and ability level.
