Tayla groaned into her hands. âTobin, why did you send me this job listing?â
Tobin sipped his margarita. âTold you. And clearly, I want you to move back to San Francisco. Thatâs why I sent you the job.â
âItâs perfect. Itâs like the perfect company.â
âNope.â He raised a hand. âI guarantee itâs not perfect. No job is perfect. Things you think are amazing right now might eventually get on your nerves. Doesnât mean itâs not great though. And the two of them are soâ¦â
âHot?â
Tobin laughed. âYeah. Pretty much. Everyone is buzzing about working for them. Everyone wants in.â
âOkay, you know I have no problems with my self-esteem, right?â
âI have known this for some time, yes.â
âBut seriously, why are they that interested in me? Iâm a small-to-medium-level influencer; I donât have the biggest follower count. Not even close.â
Tobin frowned. âI think thereâre two things youâre not seeing. One, you have a business background and an accounting degree. More than one tech start-up and fashion company has been doomed from the start because they canât balance a basic budget. So thatâs one thing you have going for you. The other thing is, look at your friends.â
She frowned. âWhat about my friends?â
âI donât mean real-life friends. I mean online friends. You may not have the highest follower count, but the people who do follow you are some very big names. You know the people with the high counts and they respect you. The people with the biggest following arenât interested in outreach. Theyâre interested in raising their profile. You, on the other hand, know everybody. At least you know them online. Youâre the model other models like.â
âI guess so.â She finished her martini and waved at the waitress to order another one. âIâve never thought about that. A lot of those girls I just know because we all started blogging around the same time.â
âYeah, but youâre a serious person and you donât chase drama. And now some of those early contacts are huge names. Thatâs valuable. I think SOKA was brilliant to spot your potential.â He glanced to the side and eyed her legs. âI spotted it years ago.â
She laughed. âNever going to happen.â
âWhy?â He reached for her hand. âWe donât work together anymore. All the reasons you gave me for not hooking up arenât reasons anymore.â
Tayla slipped her hand from his grip. âBecause⦠of other reasons. And Iâm kind of seeing someone right now.â
âI donât mind. I wasnât asking to marry you.â He frowned. âWait, where? Where are you seeing someone? In that little town?â
âYes, in that little town. And I know you donât mind, but he would. I donât think heâs a casual-fling kind of guy.â
âAre you serious?â
âItâs not serious, butâ¦â She was at a loss. How did she explain Jeremy to someone like Tobin, who thought buying an Android over an iPhone was cheating, but dating three women at the same time without telling them was no big deal? âWeâre seeing each other. Itâs fun. I donât have time to juggle. It just doesnât work for me right now.
