JOHN CARPENTER: Stephen King writes fantastic characters — he really knows people very well, and the relationships he builds throughout his works shared by his characters is probably the most appealing element of his writing to me. The relationship between Arnie and Dennis in Christine is just great, and then Arnie’s relationship with the car as well, I just love all that interplay. I mean Christine is a character study, it most definitely is a character study. It talks about this pathetic kid who finds some kind of salvation, and then self-destruction, through owning this car. So directing a film that was a character study with a haunted car running around killing people was fun to do.
