7 Turn under 1/4 inch (6 mm) along one long edge and the two short edges of the pocket gusset, and press. Stitch a 1/4-inch (6-mm) hem in the short edges.

8 Pin the pocket gusset to the pocket with right sides together, clipping as needed to go around the bottom corners of the pocket. Stitch. [FIGURE 4]

9 Finish the raw edge of the seam with a serger, or encase the seam with twill tape or seam binding.

10 Turn under and press a 1/4-inch (6-mm) seam in one long edge of the pocket flap top. Pin the pocket top flap and the pocket flap with right sides together, and stitch. Finish seam as in Step 9.

11 Pin pocket and flap to the front of backpack matching the placement lines. Overlap the flap over the pocket by 1/4 inch (6 mm). Stitch around all edges of the pocket and pocket flap, stitching close to the fold. [FIGURE 5]
