A Major

The next basic chord is called the A major, which is frequently used in Pop and Rock genres of music. To play the A major, all three of your fingers, the index, middle and ring finger need to be in between the 1st and 2nd fret. With your index finger, press down on the fourth or D string, press down the third string with your middle finger, and the second string with your ring finger.

The three fingers do not have to align; finger 1 can be closer to the first fret while the third finger can be closer to the second fret with the second finger in the middle. Strings 1 and 5 remain open.

In A major, just as you learnt in C chord, you are going to strum the first five strings leaving the low E string.
