Soak the peas overnight prior to planting. Don’t let them soak any longer, as it may do some damage. Peas do best when directly sown in the location where you will be growing them. I have been able to transplant them with some luck and extreme care, but I didn’t seem to gain anything in the effort when compared to those directly sown at a later date.
To prolong the bloom, it is important that you keep the vines well picked. If not, they will soon set nonedible pea pods, and this will send a message to the plant to slow down the setting of new buds and flowers. So the more you pick, the more you get, at least until spring starts to get really warm. I want to repeat that these pea pods formed on the sweet pea vine are not edible, so take precautions with toddlers.
