The will of God for the believer is not just to be healed, but to be healthy.

I believe the resurrection life goes beyond healing to health. The will of God is not for the believer in Christ to keep getting healed but to be healthy. His will for the believer is stated in 3 John 2: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” I have learned by experience it is much easier to be in health than it is to keep getting healed. It is good to be healed, but it is much better to be healthy. I have also learned it is much easier to have faith not to get sick than it is to have faith for healing when you are already sick.

There is a further benefit to the power of the Holy Spirit in the body of the believer: “So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:5). The resurrection life is more than equal to the ravages of sickness and disease, and it can even, in a certain measure, counterbalance the workings of old age. The Scripture says, “Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished” (Deuteronomy 34:7). Moses spent so much time in the presence of God that he really was living in a different kind of atmosphere than the other Israelites.

The environment we live in makes a significant difference. A woman told me she and her husband went home for the holidays and had a reunion with other members of the family who were not Spirit-baptized believers. They all arrived healthy but started talking about their sicknesses. After about three days of talking about their sicknesses, most of them were sick. She and her husband said, “We were just glad to get out of that atmosphere.” The environment you live in has much to do with what you experience. I firmly believe the Spirit-filled believer should create an environment around him of positive faith, confidence, and praise.
