Chapter Two
âWant to get some coffee? Decent stuff, not the swill they serve here at the tournament?â
The rest of the registration process had proceeded without incident. Jasonâs boiling lust had subsided to a persistent simmer. He wanted to invite Matt up to his room right away, but the guy seemed shy, despite the stunt he had pulled in the queue. Jason figured heâd better slow down, at least a bit, or heâd scare Matt away.
âThanks, but I really should study.â Mattâs glasses magnified his warm, cocoa-coloured eyes.
âOh, come on. Thereâs a Starbucks on the corner. My treat,â Jason added, remembering what Matt had said about his limited funds. âI can give you some pointers about the play. Thatâll help you a lot more than a couple more hours with the word lists.â
âWell, I donât knowâ¦â
âPlease? Keep me company, at least. It can be pretty lonely at these competitions, with everyone out to beat everyone else.â Jason guessed Matt was the sympathetic type.
âOkay, sure. Youâre right. Iâm just so wound up. I feel like I should be spending every minute preparing for tomorrow.â
âBetter to relax.â Jason took Mattâs arm, leading him towards the escalator. The other man didnât resist. His bare skin was hot and moist under Jasonâs fingertips. âGet your mind off the game for a while. Playing six or eight rounds in one day can be pretty intense.â
âIâll bet. Iâm psyched, though. Iâve been wanting to do this for a long time.â
As they exited the revolving door, the heat slammed into them like a ten tonne truck. âWhew! Thatâs brutal,â Jason commented as he steered the other man along the sidewalk.
âActually, you look seriously flushed.â Matt extricated himself from Jasonâs grip and gave his guide a once over. âAre you feeling all right?â Jasonâs cheeks burnt under the other manâs scrutiny. It was true that he felt dishevelled and damp. His shirt was limp, soaked through, while his pants grew tighter by the instant under Mattâs influence. âMaybe you should go back to your room and rest.â
âCoffee first.â Jason held the door for Matt to enter. âWhatâll you have?â
âDouble espresso.â Matt sank into an upholstered chair. His thighs sprawled open. Perhaps he was suffering from some constriction around the groin, too. Jason grinned to himself as he headed for the counter.
When Jason returned with their drinks, Matt was looking around the trendy interior, obviously impressed. âThanks!â he said. âItâs embarrassing to admit, but Iâve actually never been in a Starbucks before.â
âYouâre kidding!â
âNo, really. Iâve lived a pretty sheltered life. I grew up in Grantâlittle farm town about fifty miles southwest of North Platte. Went to community college in Scottsbluff while working in my uncleâs grocery store. Iâve been to Lincoln and Omaha a few times and twice to Kansas City, but thatâs about it. Of course, weâve got our local java spots. I just could never understand why somebody would pay three bucks for a dollar cup of coffee.â
âWell, it is great coffeeâ¦â Jason watched Mattâs ripe lips as the other man took a sip.
