HARDINESS/SUBREGION: Zone 7a/SWBC, PS, IWW, WV, PM, SWO, NCZ, SCZ

‘Sunset’ is a choice manzanita hybrid with shredded dark brown bark and a dense canopy of evergreen leaves that emerge orange and age to olive green. White flowers are followed by reddish fruits. This selection performs like a champ in all gardens west of the Cascades. It is tolerant of garden conditions (including light irrigation in summer) and is well adapted to clay soils that dry out in summer. ‘Sunset’ is easy to grow and quickly reaches its ultimate size. Try it under madrones as a low-maintenance, no-water understory component.
