The issues of fear, sadness, anxiety, and grief are not only emotions that we wrestle with. They are also, on occasion, in-dwelling demons. Our freedom does not only come from positive-thinking and âpep-talkingâ ourselves, nor only from the good intention to grow character. Our freedom also comes in the casting out of demons. I love inner healing and honor the important place that inner healing tools and programs have in pastoring our Christian communities. However, if you do not cast out any associated demons along with inner healing, you will leave people only half restored.
Every place in our life where we have emotional damage and inner pain we have a potential foothold for a demonic stronghold to develop. Sometimes we partner with darkness completely inadvertently, but when we have a hole in our âhedge of protectionâ (see Job 1:10) because of unresolved pain, the enemy will try to gain access to further torment us.
Every place in our life where we have emotional damage and inner pain we have a potential foothold for a demonic stronghold to develop.
At the end of this chapter there will be activation prayers to help you get fully free. But first, letâs again dive into Scripture and look at the place of deliverance in the Kingdom of God. Weâll do this so that we can answer important questions like, âCan a Christian have a demon?â and, âHow do I stay safe when casting one out?â
Deliverance: An Integral Part of the Kingdom of God
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well (Mark 16:17-18).
This list of the signs that are demonstrated in the lives of those who believe in Jesus is unusual. If you and I were attempting to compile a list of what we should look for in a Christianâs life, we would probably write something very different. Perhaps our list would read, âAnd these signs will accompany those who believe: They will love each other; they will heal the sick, and they will be really great to spend time with!â And yet, Scripture normalizes deliverance ministry as a sign that people should see demonstrated in your life as a believer. In fact, driving out or casting out demons is the first sign that the Kingdom of God is hereâindicating that it should be our regular reality.
Jesus pushes the point even further in the gospel of Luke:
But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you (Luke 11:20).
The way the Kingdom of God comes is by the driving out of demons. If you want to drop someone into a Kingdom cultureâin other words, if you want Heaven to come on earthâthen cast out their demons! And, according to Jesus,
