Plant several rows of corn to ensure proper pollination.
Diseases: Anthracnose, rust.
Container suitability: Not recommended. Suitable for container growing if you plan to grow for decoration only (expect very small ears of corn).
When and how to harvest: It will not be immediately obvious when your corn is ready to harvest. Once the ears have sized up, select an ear, peel back the top of the husk, and pinch one of the kernels. The kernel should be fat and should squirt out a milky white juice when popped. If the kernels still appear flat and emit a watery-looking juice, they are not yet ripe; if they are tough and seem difficult to pop, they may be overripe. More than in almost any other crop, the sugars in corn very quickly convert to starches after harvest, which means it will be sweetest if eaten soon after harvest. If you know you will be eating your corn for dinner, wait until that day to pick it.
