It was a song that Kai had inspired. We’d talked briefly about my hometown, and I imagined us going there and showing him just how small it really was. The truth was I really did miss him. We’d only hung out together a few times, but he made it easy to be with him. I’d picked up my phone to call him so many times, but there were never words to tell him how bad I felt for all the bullshit he’d witnessed. It may not have been my fault, but the look on his face when everyone in the band realized Jake and I had been fucking around behind their backs said enough.

I managed to write a few more lines, before deciding it was time to go. I walked out to my car just as it was getting dark and hoped that eventually I’d get to see Kai again.
