1. Abigail #1

Meaning: Cause for joy

Scripture: 1 Samuel 25:1-42; 2 Samuel 3:3

Abigail was an intelligent and beautiful woman who saved David from bloodshed by her good judgment and obvious loyalty to him. She put her life at risk to save the men of Nabal’s household, and she did save them. David married Abigail and made her his second wife, and she bore David a son named Kileab.

2. Abigail #2

Meaning: Cause for joy

Scripture: 2 Samuel 17:25; 1 Chronicles 2:16-17

Abigail was the sister of Zeruiah and King David and was the daughter of Jesse and Nahash. She was also the wife of Jether and the mother of Amasa, the nephew of King David.

King David’s servants searched throughout Israel for a young, beautiful virgin to care for him in his old age. One of her jobs would be to lie beside him to keep him warm. They chose Abishag, a Shunammite. David was not intimate with her. This had something to do with Adonijah’s request to be given Abishag as his wife after David’s death. King Solomon ended up putting his brother Adonijah to death for requesting to marry Abishag.

Meaning: Whose father is as dew

Scripture: 2 Samuel 3:4; 1 Chronicles 3:3

Abital bore David his fifth son in Hebron; his name was Shephatiah.

8. Acsah

Meaning: Adorned; bursting the veil

Scripture: Joshua 15:16-17; Judges 1:12-15; 1 Chronicles 2:49

Acsah was the daughter of Caleb. She was given to Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, in marriage as a reward for his attacking and capturing Kiriath Sepher. She urged Othniel to ask her father for a field, but instead, Acsah ended up asking her father Caleb for a special favor. She boldly asked him to give her springs of water, and he granted her request, giving her the upper and lower springs.

Scripture: Genesis 4:19-23

Adah was one of two women married to Lamech. She gave birth to a son named Jabal, who was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock, and Jubal, who was the father of all who play the harp and flute.
