SECOND LAYER

By the time you’ve finished the green areas, the center of the fruit should be dry. With your size 2 or size 6 round-tip brush, use the fine point to apply black dots or seeds in the center. Vary these dots in size, lightness, and angles to make sure they’re not too symmetrical.

STEP ONE:

Sketch

With your pencil, lightly outline the basic curves of the bird of paradise flower. You’ll start with a simple “C” curve for the overall bend of the flower. Next, add the mouth of the flower by applying another “C” curve to make a teardrop shape. Once your basic curves are established, sketch in the contour of the flower and erase your basic shape and curve guides.
