After a couple of days of peace and quiet aboard the submarines, as well as plenty of good food, the Raiders began to calm down, compare experiences with one another, and start to wonder what might come next for them. There was even some tension-relieving humor, at the expense of the skipper of the Nautilus, Captain Brockman. As Peatross observed, the captain “finally lost his cool—with himself. While flushing the toilet he inadvertently closed the wrong pressure valve and received the full blowback from the toilet bowl all over the fresh, white uniform that he had recently donned. He, of course, was a mess and in a high dither but got no sympathy from his fellow officers.”
