“Fine. Don’t answer me.” I was grumbling to myself as I put my mother’s necklace back on because he was already gone. I grabbed the caddy and stacked the toilet paper rolls on the back of the toilet, taking the caddy with me. Hunter seemed okay; he could’ve easily done something to me in the bathtub if he’d wanted to. And hell, I may have let him, I was so turned on. I don’t know what was wrong with me.

Must be the fever making me so hot.

Since he didn’t do anything, I trusted him somewhat. But I wasn’t so sure about anyone else.

I left the bathroom and tried to remember where my room was. I was in a hallway on the second floor; there was a bannister that overlooked the living room below. The room was really large with light that filtered through skylights onto large and comfortable looking sofas. I turned to the right, hoping this was the way towards my room.

The end of the hallway had huge glass sliding glass doors and I could see a large deck beyond it with no side rails. Hmmm. Convenient for dragons? I think so.

Good thing I wasn’t afraid of heights.

I turned away from it to wander down the hallway, my towel wrapped around my body with my clothes and the toilet paper caddy clasped to me tight. I had to look into three rooms before I found my own; they all seemed clean, expensively decorated and rarely used. The smell of bacon and eggs didn’t help much except to distract me. I was ravenous.

Once I found a room that looked vaguely familiar, I closed the door behind me, leaned against it and closed my eyes. How had my world gone to shit in such a short time? My birthday party seemed a century ago.

Thanks for the fucking birthday present, Scarface.

I tried not to give in to the tightness in my chest, the darkness that threatened to overwhelm me, or the sobs that wanted to burst from me. I gripped the caddy so tight that it cut into my palm. I would kill Garrett as soon as I could shift. He would die at my own hands.

I took in a deep breath, trying to calm myself. One day at a time.

One hour, one minute, at a time.

I looked around the room. There was a dark walnut four-poster bed in the middle and on the drawers sat my gun and bag. I dropped the caddy and rushed to that side of the room. The bag was a bit muddy but the gun had been cleaned. I opened the bag to rummage through it. As far as I could tell, everything was still there. I touched the pencil topper and an ache throbbed in my chest; I wished that Aaron was with me now.

I dressed quickly, silently thanking whoever was in charge of getting me new clothes that they thought to buy a bra and some underwear. Red lace. Hmmm. Kinky.

Thank goodness they fit me, even if they were a little loose.
