When not in use, items of jewellery should immediately be placed back in their cases. But first check if they require cleaning, as exposure to the elements can, over time, cause them to lose their lustre. If so, any article of gold, silver or precious stones may be dipped in a soapy lye prepared from fine toilet soap. Dry off afterwards with a badger-hair brush and buff with chamois leather. At the end of the day, the jewellery should be placed in the strong room and signed in to the Inventory Book by the Butler, or the Butler of any house you are visiting.
