good advice Plant disease-resistant cultivars when you can

Plant breeders choose and combine specific traits like flower color or plant height to create desirable new cultivars. Disease resistance is another genetic trait that can be manipulated by breeders, and it is increasingly common to see plants labeled as disease resistant or disease tolerant. This does not mean the plant is immune to all diseases. Instead, the plant is less likely to get a particular disease or, if it does get the disease, it is unlikely to be affected as badly as a less-resistant plant. For example, some tomato varieties are labeled with the initials VF, which mean the tomato is resistant to two fungal diseases, Verticillium wilt and Fusarium wilt.
