Chain 3 and slip stitch into the first chain to join and form a ring.

Color Changes
One way to express your creativity is through the use of color. Changing colors in crochet is easy. Work the last stitch of the old color until there are two loops on the hook. Draw the new color through these two loops and then work the stitches with the new color. I like to capture the old color in the first stitch of the new color by laying the yarn over the new color before I crochet the next stitch. This captures the old color and makes the color change more secure.
If you are changing colors at the end of the row, or round, work the last stitch until you have two loops on the hook. Grab the new color and pull it through these loops. Now place the old color over the new color and crochet the first chain stitch of the new row. The old color is now secure. If you are going to alternate colors every other row just leave the old color there and don’t cut it, also known as fasten off. When you come back across the row work the last stitch until there are two loops left on the hook, grab the old color and pull it through that stitch. Capture the color you just finished with in the first chain of the new row. Carry the colors up the side of the fabric when you are going to be changing colors back and forth. This cuts down on the tails you have to weave in, and keeps the yarn secure.
