WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
• How to manage tension to create soft fabric with thinner yarn and a large hook
• How to use pattern stitches in the context of a project pattern, to create a soft cowl and wrist warmers set
• How to recognize and manage “color pooling” in multi-colored yarns
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
YARN
• 450 yds of sock/fingering weight yarn
• Shown: Cascade Heritage 150 Paints (75% Merino wool, 25% Nylon, 150g/492 yds). color 9804, 1 skein
HOOKS
• F or G (3.75 or 4.25 mm)
• H and J (5 and 6 mm)
NOTIONS
• Large-eyed needle
• Stitch markers (1 necessary, up to 5 optional)
FINISHED SIZE
• Cowl is one size, 141/2" wide, 30" circumference (37 × 17 cm)
• Wrist warmers in two sizes: S/M fits wrist up to 61/2" (16.5 cm) measured 1" (2.5 cm) above wrist bone. M/L fits wrist up to 91/2" (24 cm) measured 1" (2.5 cm) above wrist bone
GAUGE
• With F hook, in sc ribbing, 21 sts and 25 rows = 4" (10 cm)
• With G hook, in sc ribbing, 19 sts and 23 rows = 4" (10 cm)
• With H hook, in Stacked Shell pattern, 3 pattern repeats = 4" (10 cm), 5 rows = 3" (7.5 cm)
• With J hook, in V-stitch pattern, 6 V-sts = 41/2" (11.5 cm), 5 rows = 3" (7.5 cm)
• Gauge is not essential for cowl, but is necessary for fit of cuffs. Adjust hook size as necessary to maintain correct gauge
