AUTHOR’S SUGGESTION

The technique described in Step 5 is called dry brushing. It gives you more control with the paint.

6. Use the white paint to fill in the entire eye area.

7. Magdalene’s irises are next. They are two shades of blue: a light blue and a medium blue. Fill in the irises with the light blue (or the light color you want to use). You’ll use a small brush for this. With the medium color, darken the side of each iris that is in the shadow.

8. The eye shadow on the sample doll is a metallic blue with pewter added. With a small brush, color around the upper crease of the eye, and a bit under the eyelid. This gives a vampish look.

9. While the eye shadow is drying, color the lips. Again, use two shades: a medium and dark red, rose, or other color of your choice. Fill in the lips with the medium color. Next, use the darker color on the upper lip and the side of the lips that are in shadow. Let her lips dry.

10. When the eyes are dry, use a small brush and black paint to add the pupil.

11. Add a dot of red to the inside corner of each eye.
