Fishing
Fishing, also called angling, originated as a means of providing food, along with hunting, when men were really men and women were just as tough.
Anyway, fishing, which includes spear fishing, fly fishing (and fly tying), bone fishing, and ice fishing, is one of the worldâs most popular hobbies. Itâs relaxing and can actually contribute to local environmental conservation. Many fishermen are passionate about keeping water clean.
Some fishermen say that the most important reason to fish is that itâs a natural stress buster. Spending time outdoors is freeing. Whether casting for trout or bobber fishing at a pond, fishermen arenât engaging with technology and work demands. Itâs an opportunity for many to bond with friends.
Fishing can also be a thrilling activity; some fish fight hard. Reeling in a marlin can take hours, and imagine the effort to land a 300-pound grouper. Imagine, too, the satisfaction.
There are so many varieties of fishing, itâs important to consider your wants and needs first. Do you live in a northern climate where ice fishing is possible during winter? Do you like the idea of learning how to fish with a spear? Spear fishing can be accomplished almost anywhere, and some participants take it up a notch by spear fishing from a paddle board. Fly fishing can be enjoyed anywhereâfrom a boat, lake shore, or in ocean waves. Tying flies is an additional pastime that many fly fishermen enjoy.
