The Infant Word Reveals the Mystery of Man

The God-Man reveals man as well as God. ‘Only in the mystery of the Incarnate Word does the mystery of man truly become clear.’ 69 To this proposition we can add another: ‘Only in the mystery of the Infant Word does the mystery of infancy become clear.’ What adults quickly forget from their childhood, what so often they fail to understand about their own little ones, is made vividly intelligible by the Infant Word. He who is the ‘exegete of the Father’ (cf Jn 1:18) is also the exponent of human childhood. ‘The mute and speechless simplicity of this Child “makes the tongues of infants eloquent” (Wis 10:21), makes them speak “with the tongues of men and angels” (1 Cor 13:1), imparting to them tongues of fire.’ 70
