Collect word strips and use them again at another time.

Practice writing using capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. (L.2.2a–e)

Give sentences to students without the capitalization or punctuation and with some misspelled words. Have students write the sentence correctly.

Practice determining the meaning of unknown words using various strategies. (L.2.4a–e)

Give students lists of words to be defined. First have students identify and define any affixes. Then have students identify and try to define the root word. Finally direct students to a dictionary. The students look up the word, write the definition of the word, and then write a sentence using the word correctly.
