GABBI

Iwas going to burst out of my skin if Chase didn’t touch me soon. Despite the kisses that had nearly melted my brain at the fundraiser, he’d kept his hands to himself the entire ride back to Estes Springs. Instead, he’d gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were nearly glowing in the Jeep’s dark interior.

He pulled into his designated parking spot and cut the engine. Now he’ll take me in his arms, I thought… but he didn’t. He climbed out of the front seat and came around to open my door like he would any other day. Without a word, we went up the stairs to his apartment, and he unlocked the door.

“Are you tired?” he asked, his voice like steel.

I shook my head. “No.”

“Me neither.” He looked straight into my eyes then, and it felt as if my heart had stopped beating. I returned his gaze, a warmth radiating from my core, and I knew what was about to happen. I could feel it, just as surely as one can tell when a thunderstorm is brewing.

And, God, it felt right.

He raised a hand, slowly, and brushed his thumb over my bottom lip. His touch was electric, and the nerve endings on my lips bloomed like wildflowers. “Are you sure?” His voice was controlled, but there was a hunger to it.

I said nothing.

Instead, I reached behind me and started to unzip my dress. I kept my eyes locked on his and, with far more confidence than I actually felt, I pushed the dress to the floor. It fell in a chiffon puddle, leaving me in a black strapless bra and matching panties. Thank God everything matches today, I thought. And then, Oh, don’t lie to yourself. You know you chose these hoping you wouldn’t be the only one to see them.

I reached behind me and unhooked my bra, then let it fall to the ground as well. My nipples hardened under his stare. “Touch me.”

Chase’s gaze turned molten. “You don’t have to ask twice.”

He wrapped an arm around my back and pulled me against him; I gasped as my sensitive skin rubbed against the fine wool of his tux. Our mouths met, softly at first, then more deeply until we were both breathless. He reached down and grabbed the backs of my thighs, urging me to jump a little and wrap my legs around his hips.

I clutched at his shoulders. “I thought people only did this in movies,” I said against his mouth. Chase kissed my lips, my cheek, and down my throat as he walked us down the hall to his bedroom, where he laid me on his bed. “Stay there.” It was more a command than a request, but I didn’t object as I watched him shed his tux.

For as good—and I did mean good—as the man looked in formal wear, he looked even better out of it. Chase’s body was all sculpted muscle; he seemed to ooze strength from his very pores. My own body pulsed with heat, and my sex began to ache.
