Wells stood in the darkened hallway. He still held the baby. Harry was nestled against his chest. Sure, taking care of his nephew had become his top priority. Yet at the moment, he wasnât really thinking about the child. Sinead was on his mind.
God, she was good looking. Better looking than anybody had the right to be. But there was more. Sinead was one of the smartest people heâd ever met on the job. Hell, she was one of the smartest people heâd met, full stop. Harry loved her. In fact, the baby seemed to like Sinead more than he liked Wells. That fact didnât bother him. He wasnât jealous, but it went to show what kind of woman Sinead really was.
Leaning on the door, he wanted only one thing: to go into the bedroom and make love to Sinead. Instead, he had to get his nephew into his crib.
The nursery was to the right of the master suite. The door was already open. He could see enough to find the crib. He set Harry down. The baby grumbled in his sleep. Wells stroked Harryâs forehead until the child quieted.
With a sigh, he walked quietly out of the room.
He stood in the hall.
Damn. He should have offered Sinead a T-shirt to sleep in. After all, sheâd been in the same clothes all day.
It wasnât too late to check on her, was it? Truly, she wouldnât be asleep already.
He knocked softly on the bedroom door. He waited a moment and turned the handle. He pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Sinead stood in the middle of the floor. Light from a streetlamp spilled into the room. It bathed her in a golden glow. She wore only her panties and shirt. Her fingers were wound in the hem of her shirt, ready to remove that as well.
He drank in the sight of her. She was more intoxicating than an aged whiskey. In the same instant he knew that it was wrong to ogle Sinead.
âOh crap,â he said. âI didnât mean to barge in.â Dropping his gaze to the floor, he stared at the rug. But the image of Sinead was tattooed on his brain. âI was going to offer you something to sleep in,â he continued, while backing out of the room. âThere are other shirts if you want. Bottom drawer of the dresser.â
âWells.â Her voice surrounded him and pulled him back to her.
âYeah?â
âDonât go,â she said.
He raised his eyes. She still stood in the pool of light. Raising her arms, she removed her shirt and let it fall to the floor. She wore only her bra and underwear. A line of cleavage separated her full breasts. Her waist was narrow, and her panties clung to her hips. She dragged her teeth over her bottom lip and smiled. âYou can stay if you want.â
Wells didnât need any other invitation. Crossing the room, he went to Sinead. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to him. Her breasts were crushed against his chest.
