“Something’s going on in Chicago,” Mitch told Gary as they fried up the fish that evening.

He had planned an old-fashioned fish fry for dinner. The coleslaw was made and chilling in the fridge, and he would start dropping the hush puppies in hot oil shortly. “Ari got this letter from a board member’s wife.” He handed it over.

Gary read and demanded, “What does she mean about assigning someone in an acting managerial role? Ari’s not having any problems managing things from here.”

“Someone’s up to no good. Think the husband knows the wife spilled the beans?”

“I doubt it,” Gary said. “She probably doesn’t even realize it’s a covert operation.”

“I’d like to know who they’re proposing for the takeover.”

Gary appeared thoughtful. “We need to find out. How’s Ari taking the news?”

“She’s as confused as we are.”

“I’ll make some calls in the morning.”

Mitch doubted Ari would wait that long to learn what was going on.
