In the banana-generating system it is directly upstream of the BGD and so produces banana smell in stationary phase. In the wintergreen smell–generating device, the osmY promoter is followed by an inverter, which is itself composed of a repressor and a promoter directing the WGD. This should produce a wintergreen scent when the cells are NOT in stationary phase.
