Okay, I think I get it. This place is all hard edges, but the person is nice.

“One way you can help is to keep his food and water dishes in the exact same place every day,” said Dr. Gibson.

“That’s what Aunt Amanda told us!” said Charles. “What else?”

“I did some research on this when I heard you were bringing in a blind puppy,” said Dr. Gibson. “It seems like some people use smells or sounds to help the puppy find his way. Like, you could put a little peppermint oil on places where he’s not allowed to go. Then you teach him that the peppermint smell means ‘no.’ You can also get him toys that smell good—like a chew toy that smells like bacon—so he can find his own toys easily. And you can train him using sound, like you could clap your hands when it’s time for him to pay attention to you.”

Dad was taking notes on his phone. “Uh-huh,” he said. “Got it. We can do some more research, too. We’ve got a lot to learn.”

Now Bingo was scratching at the door, whining a little under his breath. “I think somebody’s ready to go,” said Charles. He picked up the end of Bingo’s leash.

“And just try to keep things as calm as possible around the house,” finished Dr. Gibson as she walked them out to the door. “Bingo really needs to learn how to settle down, before he gets hurt.”

Dad laughed. “Not too many people would call our house calm,” he said. “But we do understand puppies. We’ll do our best.”
