LOBSTER TRAP

Snap! A Lobster Trap is a defence strategy that a company will deploy in order to prevent a hostile takeover. It will pass a provision that stops anyone with more than ten per cent ownership in the company from converting any securities (such as bonds and stock, which would normally be convertible) that would give additional voting rights.

LOBSTER SHIFT

If you like your sleep, then the lobster shift, also known as the lobster trick, is not for you. The shift was given to those working on overnights in the newspaper industry, although the term has slipped into other fields. New York’s Daily News veteran photographer Charles Ruppmann revealed that the name, for his organisation at least, originally came from the fact that the antisocial shifts tallied with the time that lobsters came into a nearby fish market. Much like a rare albino lobster, it’s actually quite hard to track down a definitive origin story.
