“It was made in an afternoon, with a microphone hanging out of the ceiling. I was 15, Triona was 17 and Micheal was 19 or 20. They were the first traditional songs done to guitars – it was the first time the pop music thing was brought to the Irish language.” [10]

Triona and Micheal went on to form The Bothy Band, while Maighread, with help from her family, released a solo album. She then turned her back on a musical career, studying nursing, getting married and raising a family. When she returned to music it was with a renewed sense of purpose, a desire to preserve what she could of the Donegal song tradition. With encouragement from her husband, she trained her voice and began working on her own interpretation of songs from her aunt and others that she connected with.
