Ruins of Houses in Canyon.

Chapter 12

The Harvest festival is ending, and it has been fascinating to see all the people who came to the canyon. Michael made several appearances at different Clan meetings. The meeting with the people of the Stone Clan was extremely helpful. He heard from Matthew that the masons of the Clan might know more about the Angels that had been here before. Michael asked Matthew to introduce him to the Priest for the Stone Clan. They agreed to meet the next day at Michael’s house.

“Michael, I have brought someone to see you,” said Matthew, as they met at the door. “This is Abida, the Priest for the Stone Clan.”

“I am glad to meet you,” said Abida, as he extended his hand to Michael. “This has been such a busy week with all the people in the Canyon of the Kings.”

“I understand and have wanted to meet you as well,” replied Michael, as he grasped Abida’s hand in greeting. “Come and let us sit and talk.” Michael led the way to a room that was prepared for him to meet people when they came to visit. “Let me get us something to drink.”

They all took a seat around a table that the merchant had built to meet with his suppliers. Tiacotl came with the cups and poured each one some wine before setting the pitcher on the table. She bowed and asked them to let her know if they need anything. She left the room, not to return unless Michael called. Michael had asked for privacy when he met with people, including Sarah, and Tiacotl always followed his requests.

“Matthew said you were taught to be a mason before God called you to become a Priest,” said Michael, as he handed a cup of wine to Abida. “Do you sometimes miss the pleasure of working with your hands, creating something where there was nothing?”

“I see my duties as a Priest related in many ways,” answered Abida, as he looked over at Matthew. “We take the empty heart of an unbeliever and work to fill that heart with love for Elohim. Is that not like creating something where there was nothing?”

“Yes, but sometimes we must take a heart filled with sin and empty it first of the darkness,” replied Matthew. “In that way it is like having to tear down the old, and build another in the same place. You have the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of your labor just the same.”

“Michael, does the ache in your heart hurt as
