Chapter 9
Saturday was a beautiful day. They decided to set up the outside patio instead of the dining room for the party. Hank looked around and thought what a great job they did bringing the estate back to its original state. When Dr. Langley died, maintenance became difficult. He was pleased he was able to buy the estate and bring it back to life. It would have been a shame if it was torn down for condos.
In the evening, he was pleased to see everyone was having a good time. He saw Tom and Lora seemed to be enjoying each otherâs company. It felt good to see people from all walks of life enjoying each other. His foreman and Donna seemed to be having a good time together too. Now, this was not what he expected, but he was pleased regardless.
Hank went to ask Anna if she was ready to announce their engagement and wedding. He found her in the nursery with Katelyn.
âHi, what are you doing up here? Is the baby okay? Anna, have you changed your mind again? I donât know if I can take any more of your indecision.â
âOh Hank, no I havenât changed my mind. I just came up here to tell Katelyn she was going to get you for a daddy. Does that sound crazy to you? I know she doesnât really understand, but I wanted her to know before we announced it. Silly, isnât it?â
âOf course, it isnât silly. I was telling her myself when I brought her up to bed. Donât you think we should go tell our family and friends now?â They went down stairs, hand in hand. Hank called for everyoneâs attention.
âWe have an announcement to make. First, I want to thank you all for coming. It means a lot to me to have so many friends in my new home. Anna and I would like to announce our engagement and future marriage. The wedding will be on December 10th, and we hope all of you will attend.â
There were shouts and whistles from all around the room as the crowd rushed to congratulate them. Beth put her arms around Hank and welcomed him to the family with tears in her eyes. The band played and everyone danced. Hank noticed Brad asked Gloria to dance. They made a nice couple. Maybe more people were in love than he realized.
When the party was coming to an end, Jordan and Mary came over to Anna and Hank to congratulate them. Jordan told Hank he couldnât have found a better husband for his sister, or a better brother in law. âYou know the boys are going to be thrilled you are going to be their Uncle. Theyâll want to move in with you.â
âJordan, how old are the boys? I was thinking about giving them a little job during the summer, exercising the horses and cleaning their stalls. If itâs alright with you two.â
âThey would be thrilled, but you donât have to do that. Jacob will be twelve and Matt is ten.
