Say you’re a midlevel business executive meeting with your boss for a performance review. You might be incredibly nervous, or you might walk into that office with confidence. It all depends on your relationship with that boss.

The book of Hebrews takes Jewish traditions and applies them to Jesus. In this picture, Jesus is that boss, a high priest who loves and understands us. He knows the challenges we have dealt with. And he takes us with him into the holy of holies, the special place known as the mercy seat, where the Israelites received atonement for their sins.

Normally this would scare us silly, but Jesus is right there beside us. His understanding gives us the confidence we need.
