The alarm clock was particularly annoying this morning. Last night had been so wonderful, and he was reluctant to wake up from it. Myles reached for the warmth he had thoroughly enjoyed all night but was disappointed to find that the bed was empty.
He was fully awake now with the bitter feelings that greeted him first thing in the morning. She should have at least woken him up before leaving, or he should have felt it. Had it been the way he had wanted, they would have been sharing the shower, prolonging the happy moment. Instead, he was forced to swallow the bitter pill before getting up. Myles knocked on the door to the adjacent room, only to find it empty once again.
Before he had the chance to move downstairs, Henry came back up.
âWhere is Nicky?â
âShe just left when I was having my coffee.â
âWhere did she go?â he shot back.
âDonât know, didnât ask.â
Myles swore, anger clear in his voice, âAnd you let her go out by herself?â
Henry lifted his hands, hoping to calm him down. He reasoned, âMonaco is not exactly big. She might want to go for a walk. Or you could just call her if you really wanted to know.â
âI expected more of you.â
Henry laughed at the insult, shrugging it off as if he was too tired to bother. Myles was too busy to notice. He turned his back into his room, slamming the door shut as he went straight to his phone, promptly calling Niksa.
Only after several failed attempts did he notice a message sent to him not long before.
âSee you at the motorhome.â
It was short, offering no explanation. She made him forget the disappointment he had felt when he had woken up to the empty bed. He was now not just bitter, but furious.
His mind tried to crack Niksaâs strange behaviour. He was sure that it wasnât disgust or regret that she felt towards the night they had shared. On the contrary, he could feel her primal needs that were crackling underneath. After the initial hitch, she had wrapped herself around him so tightly it had been maddening. It had surprised him to learn that this hadnât just been their first time together, but her first time ever. When they shared the blissful afterglow, she cradled his head, cupping his face in her gentle hands. Myles had felt so sated like he had never felt before. It had been more than sexual, but emotional as well.
It should have been the best morning of his life, but Niksa wasnât here to share it with him. The more he thought about it, the less he understood. Myles hated this feeling of cluelessness, unable to control the situation in the way he wanted.
