Liam watched Ever’s face. Her smile was flickering on and off like a faulty light. She would smile at a photo as he described where it was taken and what significance it had. As he was speaking, her expression would become thoughtful.

He wondered what thoughts were forming in her mind. She obviously liked the images and seemed impressed by his photographic skills. Liam always tried to take pictures of things that relayed the sense of wonder what he could see with his eyes. A photo was like a woman. It could be steeped in mystery and intrigue or flat to the eye with no sense of emotion. He had seen far too many images in his life that held no interest. They were simply a reflection of an object rather than something that was inspirational.

Ever inspired emotions in him. The idea that she had become angry at the register girl was thrilling. It spoke of the purity of her were blood even if she was a half-breed. Mick had described her as special and she was. Liam longed to photograph her and try to capture her brilliant spirit on film. In the right light, her eyes would sparkle with wild animal passion. Her smile was a wonder of expression, relaying not only happiness, but also joy, amazement, and at times, sweet surprise.

He pulled a photo from the bunch that contained a mother and daughter. He had gotten them to a sign a release, and he had hoped the image relayed the special bond between them. The mother was elderly, her hands and legs showing signs of arthritis. They had gotten halfway up the front stairway of a beautiful majestic church and then the mother had turned and sat upon the stairs. Her much younger daughter had sat beside her, the concern in her face obvious in relation to the mother’s smile that was barely concealing her pain. It showed the mother’s commitment to her faith that she would struggle to make it the rest of the way upward to go into her beloved church.

Ever stared at the photo and then looked up at him. “Oh, Liam. That is beautiful. What a moment to capture on film. There are so many emotions tied up in that image. I can almost feel the older woman’s desire to finish her climb, and the younger woman’s fear. Did she make it?”

“Yes. She rested for a while with her daughter and then stood, walking up the rest of the stairs. I was so impressed by her commitment. I could tell with every step she took that she was in pain, but she refused to stop. Her daughter said that they visit the church at least once a week. It was where her parents got married and she had been christened there.”

“Wow. You take amazing pictures.”

“Thank you. Would you let me photograph you some day?”

Her smile was tinged with reluctance. “I don’t know. Let me think about it. I don’t usually photograph well.”

“I think that the wrong person was taking the pictures.
