If your battle with gut diseases includes a struggle with too much weight, consider taking steps to monitor your activity. Researchers say that self-monitoring devices, such as a pedometer, heart rate monitor, or even a simple exercise journal, can account for a 25 percent increase in successfully controlling your weight.2 A good activity journal should monitor your waist measurement, body fat percentage, what you eat, and how often you exercise.
For additional motivation, find a photograph of yourself at or near a healthy or desired weight and put it in your food journal. Or, if you don’t have one handy, take a “before” picture of yourself now and an “after” when you reach a certain goal. Whichever photo you use, as you carry your journal throughout the day, visualize yourself becoming an ideal weight again.
