Step 1

Drape the necktie around your collar with the seam facing outward. The thick end should hang on your left side and the narrow end on your right.

Because the knot uses a lot of cloth, you'll want the tip of the thick end hanging four or five inches lower than the desired final position.

Step 2

Cross the thick end under the thin end from left to right, creating an X-shape beneath your chin.

You should finish with the tip of the thick end pointing to your right, seam facing outward.

Step 3

Bring the thick end across the front of the knot from right to left. This creates a new horizontal band across the front of the knot.
