Knitting the Bag Flat

• Cast on 30 stitches. Knit 6 rows garter stitch. At the end of the last row, cast on 1 stitch (selvedge stitch). Turn, K30, cast on 37 stitches (includes another selvedge stitch).

Knitting the Body

• Work back and forth in stockinette stitch until piece measures 9.5″ (24 cm). Work 4 rows garter stitch.

Binding Off for Top Edge

• Bind off 1 stitch, K29, bind off 3. Bind off next 30 stitches as follows: Slip stitch on right needle to left and K3tog tbl. K26 stitches. Bind off 3 stitches. Break yarn, leaving a tail for seaming. Rejoin yarn to beginning of remaining 30 stitches with right side facing.

Finishing

• Work the flap as for circular version. Sew side and bottom seams using selvedge stitches. Make and attach the handles, weave in ends, and felt as for circular version.
