Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving an 8” (20.5 cm) tail. Thread yarn needle with end and pull through remaining stitches on knitting needles. Pull tightly to close and secure end. Weave in yarn tails on inside of hat. Secure I-cord tails into center of I-cord. Tie overhand knots in bottoms of both I-cords.

Sidewinder

This hat is a nice departure from hats knit in the round. It uses a crochet provisional cast-on and Kitchener stitch seaming to graft an almost undetectable join. If these techniques are not in your wheelhouse, try a long-tail cast on and traditional bind-off, then sew the seam up from the inside.
