Borne by friends

Mark 2:1-5

Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. (verses 2-3)

Are we so steadfast in our faith as these friends of the paralytic man, determined that their friend will get to see Jesus? On the other hand, I wonder if you have friends like these? Do you value them, or do you dismiss them when they try to introduce you to Jesus? We can be stubborn at times, missing out on the very thing we need to help us. I am so filled with joy when I see friends helping one another, especially when it takes effort, for the best of the friend in need, no motivation other than helping that friend. What love this spells out! HIV/AIDS holds less of a stigma than it did when it struck first here in South Africa, but the stigma is still evident at times. It deeply saddens me when friends keep quiet about a friend silently dying and rather than asking us to go and help. Unnecessary deaths occur. We know the power that Jesus holds when we pray for those who are critically ill with HIV/AIDS, we have seen many miracles, and as we bring before Jesus the person who needs him, he tenderly ministers his love to them. People who were previously unable to walk get up and start walking, just like the man in this story, because they have come before God himself. They no longer are hiding, but are back in relationship with God because of the love of Jesus. Trust in Jesus, and bring your friends to him, for him to love.

† Lord, may we learn to love as you love, and may we be obedient to you and bring our friends to meet with you. Thank you for my friends who introduced me to you.

Let your friends help you today, for they may lend a hand in saving your life.
