FOODS THAT ALLOW YOU TO FOCUS

Intuitive parents have long suspected that poor school performance was linked to poor nutrition. New scientific studies are beginning to confirm these suspicions. Many doctors believe as I do that a dopamine imbalance can be exacerbated by poor nutrition. However, the good news is that it can also be corrected through diet.

Waning attention may be a sign that the foods you choose do not include the building blocks needed to support and create dopamine. Focus on foods containing the amino acids that are the building blocks of dopamine: those rich in tyrosine and phenylalanine. You’ll need to include protein in every meal. A high-protein diet, particularly at breakfast, sets you up for successful thinking throughout the day.

Besides being in the foods in the table on page 147, phenylalanine can be found in the sugar substitute aspartame, which is sold as either NutraSweet or Equal. These artificial sweeteners are safe and nutritious. Aspartame has been the subject of more than 200 research studies for more than 30 years in which its safety has continued to be demonstrated.
