“I have some thoughts about the future,” Caprice said as they left the club with two vehicles escorting them to the archives.

“Shoot,” he said.

“I’ve been thinking through all your memories since I woke up. You said that now that we’re mated, you feel like you belong, like you have a family.”

“Right.”

“Well, I feel that way too. And I think with all your memories, plus Selene, that Cleveland really does feel like home to me. The question is, can we find a place that’s secluded enough so my hounds can run around without terrifying people, and that also isn’t too far of a trek from the club?”

“I’d love to stay here. I’m sure we can find something that has what you need for the hounds. I like the cabin, but it’s really too small, plus the drive sucks.”

He turned onto the highway and glanced in the rearview mirror, watching the two vehicles appear.

“I have a question about the hounds.”

“What?”

“So you bind them to someone with a special blade and what amounts to a magic spell, right?”

“Yep.”

He had her memories of binding Titan and Styx to herself, speaking words in an ancient language he didn’t recognize while cutting herself with a rare, sacred blade and pressing the blood to the forehead of the hound.

“Can you add a second person?”

“Do you mean could you bind yourself to Styx and Titan also?”

“Yeah.”

“No. The binding is only for one person. When I sold Leto to the alpha wolf and his mate, she asked if she could bind him to any children they have, but it’s not possible. She can have him protect her kids, but his first priority is her.”

Hounds’ lives were also tied to their owner. If the owner died, the hound died. But the hound could die, and the owner would still live.

“I could keep Clio,” she said.

“Why would you do that?”

“To give her to you. She’s rotten right now, always stealing my shoes, but she’ll be amazing when she’s grown. Then you could have your own hound.”

He was touched by her offer. “I don’t want to take her from anyone who would really need her.”

“Um, I think you do,” she said with a chuckle. “Our lives are tied together. It would be in my best interest for you to have a hound too.”

He did like the idea, especially with the added reasoning of keeping himself safe so Caprice would be safe.

“How long until she’s one?”

“Six months.”

“Maybe you’ll find another hound in that time and I can bind it instead.”

“I’d love to rescue some more. I just don’t think there are any. Mine might be the very last ones.”

He hummed. “We should ask Darien to look for them.”

He glanced at her and saw her scrunch her nose as she searched his memories for Darien. The fallen angel worked for Mishka, and while he was part of the security team, his main work was locating unique items for Mishka’s vast collection of antiquities and books.

“I could just tell you who he is,” he said with a laugh.
