In a major push, the 25th and 41st divisions are trying to shove Japanese units back and up into the mountains south of Miyazaki. Once more they want to force the pass toward Miyakonojo.

The 33rd Division is left to cover the entire north and west front, biased toward covering the right flank of the American attack.

The 2nd and 3rd Marine divisions have paused with too many holes in the line to fill. The Japanese 77th Division is allowed to continue an orderly retreat.
