Chapter 14

Connor

I was still in a state of disbelief. I hadn’t brought Ember here with the intention of seducing her. I smiled inside, I hadn’t done anything to her, she’d given back as good as she got—and then some. I shuddered, aftershocks of pleasure rippling through every muscle and bone in my body. I smiled. Besides, she’d initiated what had happened. Fucking wasn’t the right way to describe what had just happened between us. No, it was so much more—at least it was to me. That thought should scare me, but it didn’t—she didn’t, even though I was more terrified than ever of losing her.

I dropped my face into Ember’s neck and inhaled. Mixed with sex, her smokey scent was heady. The subtleties of it, of her, were different than I remembered, but it was a scent I wanted to stay wrapped in forever, that I wanted permeated into my skin. My wolf stirred, growling at me, reluctant to agree to that need. I reassured him and he settled. Both of us knew it was too soon to claim Ember and her wolf, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t work on it.

“Stay with me tonight.” My breath fanned her ear and she shivered. I didn’t want to let her go to another alpha’s pack, and I was more than aware I hadn’t done what I’d brought her here for. But the kiss we had shared all those years ago had been my last. I’d never wanted another woman’s lips on mine, not after that, so when she’d kissed me, I’d been done for; utterly lost in the woman I had always loved.

Ember glanced at the door and wriggled against me. I groaned, my body super sensitive from my orgasm. The slickness from our bodies only increased the sensation.

“Don’t worry, they won't let anyone in.” I kissed her gently on the lips. “But we should get dressed.” Her crazy coloured hair stuck to her face. Gently, I brushed it back. She was flushed and her eyes were as bright as polished emeralds. I smiled. She looked well and truly fucked, and utterly beautiful. I tried to ignore the ache in my chest, and the pull to stay exactly where I was, surrounded by her warmth. Forcing myself to move, I gently pulled out of her body and let her feet slide to the ground. She leaned back against the wall as if she needed the support. I just smiled and ran the back of my fingers down her cheek, not commenting, since I couldn’t remember ever being this shaky after sex. My cock jumped as I took in her nakedness. Gods, she was stunning.

With a sigh, I turned away and grabbed our clothes off the floor. We needed to talk, which wasn’t going to happen if she didn’t get some clothes on.

“Would you like to freshen up?”

She nodded but didn’t speak, just kept her eyes on my face.

My stomach dropped, I took her hand and led her into my cell at the back.
